Hello all,

I am trying to find information on installing a network printer. I can ping the IP address of the printer. It is on a windows Nt network. On the windows machines on the network the printer is installed with the IP address followed by ":LPR". I don't see packages for LPRng or LPRng Tool in the Fedora repos. Do I need LPR or what is the best way with Fedora such a printer to install. The manufacturer of the printer/copier is Ricoh.

Any hints would be greatly appreciated,

Kevin Tough

Is the printer connected to the Windows machine which shares it on the Windows network or not? If it is add a SMB printer with the printer config tool. Read the help in the tool for more info.

I am not familiar with networks much. The printer/copier is on an ehternet cable that would be 50' or more from any of the PC's connected to it. Is it still possible it is locally connected to the main server of one of the other PCs? How should I check that?
On the one Windows machine I checked the printer/copier is listed twice. It is listed as "??Black&White" and "??Color". The connection is made through the same entry for both which includes an Local IP address with ":LPR" ending.
I have just dumped my Mandriva distro were my exact information on this was and unfortuanetly the info is gone. On monday I can check things out again and supply the exact info. Any hints or commands I should run to better define my problem would be greatly appreciated.

Best regards,
