I'm stumped. I moved my servers into a closet last night, so it wasn't humming next to my desk and making my room a million degrees (There's vents in the closet...) and when I went to bed, I had everything working, which really just consisted of booting it all up in the right order and checking that they all had network access, that my web site worked and that my mail server was working.
When I woke up this morning, I tried to check my mail (from my laptop) and it failed to connect... so I hopped over to the linux system in the closet, and lo and behold, no network connectivity, can't ping, can't get a dig, can't even tell if it's connected to anything... but the hardware is all in good shape, I'm still having no problems getting on line through the router, but I can't ping either way (from my laptop to the server or from the server to the laptop)
The only other recent changes I made was a full system update. (yea, only 260 updates, nothing big.... sheesh!)
I updated my kernel to 2.6.16 (using yum) and then rebooted on the new kernel and updated everything else. That was the day before yesterday though, and it doesn't seem to have made this problem occur...
First I need to know what to look for, what settings I need to change, and the like... then I'll need help figuring out what happened.
So, my dns settings seem to be right, my ip and gateway settings are all good, I can't seem to figure out where or what I need to be looking at to make this damn thing work again... and with all the little things this computer's been doing in the past couple months, it makes me think I need to just reload the whole system (I've been thinking about migrating my fileserver and web/mail/ftp/TiVo together for a long time anyway, just had planned on doing it a bit differently, but that would be a good time) but I really don't want to fight with all the configuration that I've already done to get the TV card working and install qmail and set up the domains, etc...
Please help!
