Hi,
I have just installed FC5 and am having a little trouble with configuration never having seen a Gnome desktop before.
How do I dial out? I am using FC5 and am connected now by going into Network configuration as root and activating my modem, which is working well, by the way. I have found Modem Lights Preferences and put the applet in one of the panels and it is showing me the connection time OK, however I can't make it connect or disconnect. It's commands are set as /sbin/ifup ppp0 and /sbin/ifdown ppp0. The modem is called device ppp0 so I need a bit of help here please.
Also I have a shared partition at hda6...and can't seem to navigate to it. How do I do this?
Sorry these are so basic but searches haven't helped. Thanks.
Sandy

It's been a long time, but IIRC, to configure the modem, try System->Administration->Network. Enter the root password. When the app (system-config-network) comes up, click "New" then follow the instructions for setting up your modem.

You can also try Applications->Internet->KPPP for connecting your modem.

Oh I got it configured right away and could dial out the way I mentioned. However after trying all day I could still find no way of dialing out as user in Gnome. Kppp is in the KDE desktop.
I had problems with the install affecting my distro on the other HD because it couldn't read the filesystem changes (Logical Volumes)?
I gave up and uninstalled FC5.
Thanks for your help.

KPPP is a KDE app that needs KDE libs in order to run, but it's in my Gnome menus and runs when invoked.

Hi,

Your issue may be in the modem lights applet. Please see if this thread helps.
