I’m running FC5 on a Toshiba laptop. The laptop has both wired and wireless network adapters. The wireless NIC is the Intel 2200BG and I’ve installed version 2.4 of the firmware. My problem is that the name of the wireless interface changes from boot to boot. Most of the time ifconfig shows a name of dev23641, dev11292, etc. instead of the eth1 as I expected. I have scripts that check for eth1 and they fail because of the unexpected and unpredictable interface names. What is the cause this and how can I fix it.

The name of the wired interface is always eth0.

My problem is documented in http://fedoraforum.org/forum/showthread.php?t=109988&highlight=initscripts+fc5. A fix is available a new version of the initscripts located in the updates-testing repo.
