cifs peculiarity

I can mount my desktop samba shares on my laptop, both are fc5 machines. They're visible when use the "ls" commander, or when I use Konqueror. But I can't actually open those files that are on the desktop machine, from the laptop. I've tried using
mount -t cifs, and
/sbin/mount.cifs

Is this a new feature?
