View Full Version : Doesn't detect external serial 56k modem

I installed Fedora Core 5 a few days ago, and have been trying to get internet access ever since. This morning, I realized I had a Winmodem, and I just got back from purchasing an external serial modem, since I'd read that they worked, no problem. It's -not- a Winmodem (I checked, double checked, AND triple checked before even going to the store), but when I try to set up an internet connection, it doesn't see the modem. It's a Creative Modem Blaster V.92 External Serial Modem. Do I need modem drivers? Where might I get these? Windows XP detects the modem (I'm using it as I type), but Linux does not. When I set up the connection, it sets it up as "generic modem", and it won't activate. Gives me something like... "Error 2", if I remember right. Which I may not- that might be the error from the other modem.

I'm hopelessly new to the OS, so if you need more information I can't get from inside Windows or the tower, you'll have to tell me how to get it.

Thanks in advance! I'd really like to be able to connect from Linux- I only even have Windows on the machine just in case something goes wrong and I don't know how to fix it from Linux. Like this.
