Hey ppl,

lately i'm having a serious problem with my Fedora Core 2 server. I am running it for 2 years now and never had this problem.

Now and then the eth0 interface goes on and off real shortly after an other. It is not possible to get any connection at the moment. IF you look at the switch it will blink real fast.
If i reset the switch for 10 seconds the problem is solved for that moment.

In the beginning it was once a day or 2 days now it is more often daily.
I changed the ethernet card for a new intel one, that didn't helped. I changed my switch that didn't helped so it must be in the system software.

Here is the system log at the moment he starts to fall out:

Looks like an intermittent connection alright. Could be a failing switch - maybe a failing NIC.

Have you switched any of the hardware/cables out with something different to see what changes?

Well the basis trouble shoot i've done already like changing NIC and switch.

I think that it is the auto-negotiating option, because when i set it to " off" it changed back to " on" like it will be overruled by something.

yesterday,i removed the server from the network and connected the switch directly to the adsl router (normaly my server is the router) and after half an hour the problem was there again. So from that situation i can say that it must be the switch doesn't matter what device is attached to it.

I think the problem is solved, i ordered a new 3com 8 ports 100 mbit switch. that should solve it.
