also, have a look at ConsoleOne, which enables admin access to novell, its a free download for linux

edit
the download link at the above site no longer works so use the link given at this site
http://www.novell.com/coolsolutions/trench/16202.html

also you need a java runtime environment, probably a good idea to install sun's in case there are problems with the fedora supplied one (gnu)

ShellPrefs.ser not found.

What is the error????????????

Is it possible RED HAT 9 installed on SATA Hard Drive?? If you have any indea pl. give..

hmm not sure, but why did you install sun's jre if it was working? (unless you mean the install worked without jre (but haven't actually managed to run the application), this is normal, novell took their jre out of the installion process because it was causing so many problems)

maybe you didn't install the jre correctly, can you reverse your steps to remove jre1.5.0?

if not, then you'll have to try reinstalling the jre:

jre 1.4.2 is suggested for ConsoleOne, but I would be surprised if v1.5.0_09 was causing the problem.

it doesn't take too long to try different runtimes, eg to try v1.6

Follow the steps at this page
http://jimlawrnc.mine.nu/mywiki/JavaInstall

overwriting previous references to jre1.5.0

and you must delete the symbolic link to the old plugin (v1.5.0) in /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins

then also try v1.4.2 if that doesn't work.

edit:
download jre1.4.2 here (don't get the sdk, the jre is the second link down) http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html

your other question (perhaps start a new thread if you have more questions on this)

I'm sure Red Hat 9 can be installed on a sata drive, but I haven't installed it myself.

Dear Sideways,

Thanks for your reply again. How to uninstall JRE I don't know. IT is now complicated for my system thats why I also tried RED HAT 9 installation on SATA Drive. IT is possible you have to change bios setup changed chipset from Enhanced to AUTO and then installed RED HAT 9 it is installed perfactly on my system. Now problem is that Novell client was not running. It gives error like FC6 - server not found in (0X8847) try fo find servername. If you have any idea for RH9 netware solution. I am also googled on net for that query.

My System Configuration are as under.

HP COMPAQ DX2280 DESKTOP PC
CHIPSET - INTEL PENTIUM DUALCORE 2.66GHZ - 256 RAM
HDD - 80 GB SATA
IDE - INTEL CORP. 82801 FB/FW (ICH6/ICH6W) SATA CONTROLLER
Processors - 8050
Novell Server - 5.00

Thanks in advance...

is tcp/ip running on the novell server or is it just ipx?

I installed ConsolOne on FC3 (with JRE 1.4.2) at a workplace quite a while ago just as a demonstration, I recall having to ensure tcp/ip was running on the novell server, but don't remember too much else.

Do the docs for ConsoleOne not help at all?

I can only point you to a couple of sites which discuss tcp/ip and ipx in more detail

As to your original question about a novell client for fedora, I haven't used this but here are some links

http://linux.maruhn.com/sec/ncpfs.html
http://tldp.org/HOWTO/IPX-HOWTO-9.html

(the rpm for ncpfs)
http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3/stat/4/idpl/3412239/com/ncpfs-2.2.6-5.i386.rpm.html
(you'll also need stuff like ipxutils (http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3/stat/4/idpl/3412000/com/ipxutils-2.2.6-5.i386.rpm.html) , the complete dependencies list is near the bottom of the download page)
EDIT actually, it's in fedora core repository, so just type

yum install ncpfs

then type 'man ncpmount', 'man nwclient' etc and 'less /usr/share/doc/ncpfs-2.2.6/README' for some help

Here's a brief howto for FC3
http://www.neowin.net/forum/lofiversion/index.php/t325145.htm

and here's somone else who got it to work (with instructions)
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/showthread.php?t=164453

Good luck :)

Dear Sideways,

Thanks for kind support for Fedora. But I have successfully installed RED HAT 9 on sata hard drive with novell client and all other softwares. We have moved to Fedora becuase of this problem. Our 80% computers are running on REd HAT 9. I have done few changes in the BIOS setup and its run whole setup
without anyproblem. I put this how I can in Linux Chat of www.fedoraforum.org and Linux distribution of REd hat in www.linuxquestions.org with heading of Good News:-----------------------------------------------------

Your help will be also more important for me in near future when we have installed Fedora Core 6 and so on.

Thanks Again....

Because in software CD there are no rpms for above two utilities. So how I can I connect to Novell from that machine?? Pl. reply if you have any idea. Meanwhile I also find on link whatever you sent me....
