I've installed Fedora 6 on a Dell Dimension 2400 and I have a problem where some web sites and my email won't respond. If the web site page loads quickly I can access the site. I can ping out and I can access local network shares. I can load www.google.com, but not www.msn.com. I can neither send nor receive emails. I don't get a particular error on the web sites, the browser just keeps trying to load the site and it will go on forever (seemingly). My email will eventually stop and generate a timeout error. The Dell has a Broadcom adapter and I've tried an Intel adapter. I've turned off the firewall. The odd thing is, is that I've done a very similar installation on a Dell Server and I didn't have any of these problems. This feels like some kind of a timeout problem but I'm not sure where to look. I've tried to search the forums but I can't seem to find the right search terms to get useful results. The one thing I did find and try revolved around some IPV6 settings two conf files in /etc. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Jack Hess

May be the problem is with ipv6, I saw this problem before. If you are using firefox:

in address bar, type about:config
See for the entry:
network.dns.disableIPV6
the set the value to "true"

The problem with mail must be another thing.

Pietro,

Thank you for the suggestion. I tried it but no go. I believe the web browsing/email problems are related and I hope this leads to the solution.
