Trouble with ntop user id

I've installed ntop and its working fine. I used the ntop -P <directory> -u <username> -A for the initial startup. It asked me for an admin password and i put one in. However when starting the program it says using user nobody, even though that's not the userid i entered. I tried putting in the above line again but without any success. Where did i go wrong?

Please bear with me as i am new to linux but i've been trying to educate myself with some books and searching the web. I've very tech oriented but still learning Fedora.
