Samba works on one FC6 machine, but not another.

On the machine that works, I can go into system-config-samba, check the properties on a share, check ACCESS, and though I have it set to EVERYONE, find all my system users listed, though grayed out, available in case I want to select them individually.

But on the machine where Samba lets me look at network shares, but tells me they don't exist when I try to open them, everything looks the same in system-config-samba until I click on properties, ACCESS.

I have always had both machines set to EVERYONE, but on my non-working FC6 none of my system users appear.

I suspect that the reason I canot access any network shares is because I have no user credentials.

I can log onto the system as any of the system users. I can go to system-config-users and see them all. They are all set up exactly like they are on the working FC6 system, with the same passwords, the same groups, etcetera.

The users do exist. But in system-config-users they do not appear. EVERYONE is the only option, because there are no users visible to select. And all attempts to access a network share get a message that the file or folder does not exist.

How can I get it to show my system users in system-config-samba ?

In fact, in samba-config-users Preferences/Samba Users, I get an empty list of users and am invited to add a user. But when I add one, I am told that that user already exists.

On the working FC6 machine, all the system users are listed in that window.
