hello,
I have a rtl8187 on the mainboard (asus m2n32 sli deluxe) and couldnt make it work either on ubuntu dapper, edgy or fedora 6 (all are 64 bit);
Dapper 64 bit
no driver installation was succesful
Edgy 64 bit
Drivers come with the distro but no network could be found. windows xp could see and connect on the same computer
Fedora 64bit
I installed ndiswrapper and then xp 64 bit driver for 8187 and came to the point as I was in edgy. no network could be found.
I also have a PCI hardware modem could not install that either. it works under winXP.
any comments, suggestions?
Thank you,
semetay

Thanks for the link. I went through that way as well. I got compiling and some other errors. Ndisrwrapper got me closest point.
I just noticed that my wireless light is on during xp session and when I restart and go into fedora it remains on for some time during linux boot then it goes off. then I cant get the light on whatever I do including ifconfig wlan0 up.
thank you...

you will need a i686 kernel for most third party drivers
to check
rpm -qa --queryformat "%{NAME}-%{VERSION}-%{RELEASE}.%{ARCH}\n"|grep kernel|sort
if you have i586 you will need to swap it

That was for 32 bit only.
I had trouble getting my rt2500 working under a 64 bit OS :(

error I am getting is posted here;
http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=146429
but now it is irrelevant since I switched to kubuntu edgy. same symptoms here as well. no networks could be found. however I could do the compiling without any error. but no luck with wireless. I cant connect to internet with linux either with hardware modem or wireless. Only way is to connect the laptop to the desktop and use the laptop's internet conection. it is so unpractical!
thank you for the help...

dunno if we have the same needs/problems: i have a desktop pc (fedora 9) with the m2n32 sli deluxe motherboeard and an eee-pc asus; i want the desktop to act as hot-spot(?) to let the netbook to browse the web, but the eee-pc does not see any wireless network available...
in the harware page of my desktop network configuration i can see a "Realtek Semiconductor Corp. RTL8187 Wireless Adapter" as device "wlan0", i plugged the antenna in :) ...but i'm really new at this thing. can someone tell me what to do? (thank you)
