Just about every day, my (Win XP) client machines have trouble resolving the address of my intranet web server (web, internal POP/SMTP) from its URL. However they can always resolve the host name of the server. There's no networking problem on the clinets; it's something on the server. Then, magically, it starts to work all by itself (without any intervention by me).

Usually this happens when a given client is first turned on, However, when one client fails, they all do.

So here's an example:

My client's homepage is set to "http://www.myweb.jql/Home.htm", and the name of the server is "gx620". If I can't get to my home page, I can type "http://gx620/Home.htm" into the address bar to get to my homepage. Half an hour later, it will resolve the address of the homepage from the URL. My clients all have correct primary and two secondary DNS server addresses served by the DHCP server (my router). (The primary server is on my intranet, and the secondary ones are from my ISP) They can resolve any external URL or either of my intranet servers using the hostname at all times.

I have always had the same problem with an ollder server running RH9. The newer one is running FC6.

Where should I look for the problem?

Thanks,

Bill
