Eternal gratitude promised...

The computer can activate and see the router (one router and one wireless access point actually), but it can't connect to it.

dmesg returns (among the usual):

************************************************** **********************************
wlan0: association FAILED: peer sent response code 18 (Assoc denied: requesting STA doesnt support all data rates in basic set)

************************************************** ***********************************

it is a Linksys card with the ACX111 chip set, and it was working previously before changing to a network router (I used the ACTIONTEC DSL as a wireless access point but now it won't even connect to that).

It has to be some simple setting that I have overlooked...I've tried everything that I have found here and through searches on the sorceforge site, as well as removing recompiling and reinstalling the card.

:D
Hallelujah --- Houston we have ignition...

It was something stupid and simple -- I had changed things in network configuration several times in an attempt to communicate with the router and other computers on the network, and in the course of trying all of the different combinations I had set the SSID to "Specified" and the "transmit rate" was set to be exclusively "54."

Changing it back to "Auto" enabled the card to work (I am sure I had tried that in other combinations during the course of this), and to clarify things a bit more I did remove the old "ack.ko" from the kernel and recompiled the latest source files that I had downloaded so that they were appropriate for the newer kernel prior to making the changes to the network config file.

It works like a dream now...I hope it stays like that.

Now on to Wine and QuarkXpress.
