Hey,

I share an internet connection and im usually hogging the hell outa it, wondering if anyone can suggest a way to limit the total speed of my upload/download for all/any programs as alot dont have speed limiting abilities.

I googles about but coudnt find anything

FC6 using iproute2?

Iv looked into TC but dont quite understand what im doing or if it can be used for downloads, its only really meant for uploads right?

yes, it's for both.

it is pretty simple to configure it, take a look at a short howto:

I tried http://www.mastershaper.org/index.php/Main_Page which looks rather mad but i could not make sence of it... Got it all installed without errors but coudnt get it to even monitor let alone shape

As i understand it now i need IMQ to limit my incomming traffic correct? what exactly is imq.... everywhere i look they call it Intermediate Queueing Device, its not a "device" though its just a kernel and itables patch?

Still reading on tc but im pretty lost, most the info i come across is just too confusing and out of date.

Anyone point me in the right direction?
