It seemed (could just be a coincidence) that after installing VLC MP I am unable to stream video through my network. I was able to do it with Totem (after installing videodog) but now it says it doesnt have the plugin for the movie. Any solutions...where should I start?

You can't steam video as in play a video file located on another computer on your network? Or you cant view a specific file because your missing a codec?

I am unable to stream mult. files across the network. I am able to view avi files, mpg, etc when they are on the HD.
This is the error that totem gives me:
There is no input plugin to handle the location of this movie

make that audio too...i can open text documents, for example, in their current location on the HD of the other PC, but I assume anything transferred across UDP is unable to be viewed across the network. What is wrong here?

Now Ihaven't tested streaming movies and probably won't as I don't do that much with electronic versions, but I have no issue with audio or text files so my question would be, how are you accessing the HD on the other computer?

through a basic P2P home network via a router using Samba...if that answers your question

Yep, I'm speculating that it may be a Samba issue. I can stream music from my FC5 server running samba, into my Windows 2k box.
What does your samba testparm output look like?

[98cwitr@98cwitr ~]$ testparm
Load smb config files from /etc/samba/smb.conf
Processing section "[homes]"
Loaded services file OK.
Server role: ROLE_STANDALONE
Press enter to see a dump of your service definitions
[global]
netbios name = FEDORA
[homes]
read only = No
browseable = No
is that what you're looking for? I am actually refering to going to opposite way...from a Windows machine to Fedora. I was able to do it for about 3 days before I installed VLC. I can stream from Fedora to Windows fine.
