FC8 - Maybe thats my problem?

Yes, it was working before the update about two weeks ago and now I am turning somersaults to try to connect again.

So I click the nm-applet icon and it gives me my wired and wireless network. I click on wireless and it shows me "waiting for network key for the wireless network <mynetworkname>" and presents me with a popup that asks for my wireless key.

So, that would be great except at the bottom I can see one choice available and that is "cancel". The "connect" button is grayed out.

Up until the update last night when I clicked on cancel I was getting the "your app has a bug yadda yadda yadda" and I kept hoping that with each day the connect button would appear but no joy.

Any ideas? I see lots of people using wlassistant or wpa_gui or wifi radar but not sure I need anything else.

If you can help a lady out I sure would appreciate not being stuck to a wall via CAT5.

Thanks!

Deborah

the button will not light up until you enter a passkey. and I think has to have 8 characters, upper and lower case letters, and at least 1 number. for example if you enter

thisismypasskey

its not gonna let you even try to connect. If you enter

ThisIsMyPassKey1234

the button should light up. give it a shot ;)

Hey FriedChips!

I am just north of Milford so its nice to see another Michigander 'round here. Have you gotten to a Cider Mill yet this fall?

I tried your suggestion and screen captured the attempt: (this is not my normal passkey)

My wireless key passkey has 10+ characters but no numbers. I am using WPA. Do I need to change my passkey?

TY for your quick response!

Figured it out.

I had eth0 and eth1 crossed in the NM. Not sure how that happened but deleted them both and started over and voila' ...

Used wlassistant to get the whole connection up and running and I am all set.

Thanks FriedChips for your attempt to help. Much appreciated!

No problem, no I have not been to a cider mill yet, I just moved to michigan from Indiana about six months ago. So far haven't had a chance to even explore much outside of work. Kalamazoo here :) hoping to start at Western next fall.

Glad you got it working ;)
