Hi,
I am having problem in accessing the secured wireless lan which requires entering a password. The problem is, how and where do I do this? I am running Fedora 7 on my laptop. The wireless lan card is detected so that's not a problem.
Thanks.

fedora 7 comes with knetworkmanager (which is what i use for mine. not sure what's used in gnome).
1) make sure the NetworkManager daemon is running (as root at terminal): service NetworkManager status
2) if yes skip to 4, otherwise you need to start it: service NetworkManager start
3) make sure that daemon starts everytime: chkconfig NetworkManager on
4) look in the system tray in kde (next to the clock on the taskpanel) you should see the knetworkmanager icon. right click on it and click on the appropriate wireless connection (should have a list of detected networks) and you will be prompted for password and security type if its a secure wireless connection.
hope that helps, and i hope there is a like utilitty in gnome if that's what your using.

Thanks for the info. I tried to check if the NetworkManager daemon is running as suggested but it returned quoting: "bash: service: command not found"! I was under root status.

Open a terminal window and change to root with su - (su dash) and type
chkconfig --345 NetworkManager on
chkconfig --345 NetworkManagerDispatcher on
Reboot the computer and you should have a new icon on the top panel notification area, left click the icon and go from there...

It is still giving me the same "bash: chkconfig: command not found" reply!
Now I cannot even login to Applications>Add/Remove Software......the box comes up and after entering the root password, nothing happens!!

Okay, I think I have managed to get the NetworkManager to come on now.
I was poking around with the Menu at the top left hand corner and went into System>Administration>Services, and there it was, the NetworkManager and Network Manager Dispatch...so I ticked them both and the small icon with two terminals came up straight away on the top right hand corner.
Thanks for the help!
