Hi,
i'm an almost newby to fedora and i have problems creating a WLAN connection from my laptop (dell inspiron 6000) to my netgear router.
when i log on as root i#m able to connect to my WLAN using the network manager, then i can log off as root an log on as any other user and use the network, but when i fist log in as any user i'm unable to connect to the network, it seems that the network manager starts and it also asks me for the WPA passphrase but when i enter it, the networkmanager closes and thats it
hopefully someone has a solution for me
yours peter

Goto system ->administration ->network. highlight your device and click "edit" put a check in the box "allow users to enable/disable device" and save it. Do it for the other devices also and save it.....

Have you managed to solve this problem by any chance? I just installed Fedora 8 on my T60, and my problem is inverted! NetworkManager can connect wlan0 from any user, but only as root can it connect eth0. I don't think I had this problem with the LiveCD (as the "fedora" user). I have ensured that the "allow users to enable/disable device" settings are the same for both users. I will also point out that in my case, after the install, I first logged in as root and connected to the wireless, then the wire. I don't know if that matters. I don't even begin to know what else to look at, even though I am hardly a newbie ... I manage a small pile of server machines at work. There are a few things I might be able to play with; I'll report back.

Replying to myself ... I created another user, and noticed that I didn't have this problem. So I "fixed" this problem for my primary user by deleting my personal gnome configuration. That is, I deleted .gnome, .gnome2, .gconf, .gconfd, .gnome2_private. Now, I have no problems connecting to either network connection. I suspect the underlying issue is that the switch from FC6 to F8 resulted in changes to the names of the interfaces (eth0, eth1 -> wlan0, eth0), but I couldn't find any references to the old eth1, so I don't know exactly which configuration item mattered.
I suddenly have ENORMOUS problems with gnome starting things up VERY VERY VERY slowly, but that's another problem :-)
