Hi

can anyone help. I have a netgear wireless router, an IBM X40 with an atheros wireless card, i am running Fedora 7.
I am able to connect to the wireless network, but am unable to connect outward to the internet. I have seen various old posts on this site, where the fix has been to update resolv.conf with the gateway address etc, and have tried all this but to no avail.

IWconfig lists my netwok in the return list (as connected) and ifconfig returns the gateway address (192.168.1.2 )bound to the internet address. I have messed around disapling IPV6 in firefox and have added a static route to the gateway...none work.

Any tips gratefully recieved before i chuck laptop, router and cat out of the window.....

What happens when you try to ping the gateway address. Open a terminal and type:

ping 192.168.1.2

if gnome go to System Administration Network

enter roots passwd
click the dns tab

are any listed ?

if not try adding them in you can obtain them from your router

Goto system ->administration ->network, highlight your device and click on the "DNS" tab and add these 2 entries. For the primary use 192.168.1.2 and for the Secondary use 4.2.2.1 and save it and try again...

hi jim - the only dns listed is the gateway but with a 1 instead of a 2 - i.e. 192.168.1.1

Check your routers configuration page and double check to make sure the wireless ip address is 192.168.1.2 instead of 192.168.1.1 Most routers are set for 192.168.1.1 If this is the case your laptop interface will be something other than 192.168.1.1

ok - the router is set to .1.1 - i changed my DNS primary to match, but still nothing !

sorry....
