I'm running Fedora 8 stable with all updates... I've ran across an issue of getting my wireless setup using Network Manager and am ready to attempt to do so by hand. I've read how great Network Manager 7 is yet can't seem to get it running on my system. My setup is the following;

Fedora 8 fully update
Package NetworkManager - 1:0.7.0-0.6.7.svn3235.fc8.i386 is already installed.
Package NetworkManager - 1:0.7.0-0.6.7.svn3235.fc8.x86_64 is already installed.
Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 4965 AG or AGN Network Connection (rev 61)
kernel 2.6.24.3-34.fc8
or
kernel 2.6.23.1-42.fc8

Now I've made sure Network Manager and Network-Dispatcher were started in 'services'. I also edited the wireless settings in system-config-network and made sure that "Controlled by NetworkManger" and "Allow all users to enable and disable this server" are check marked.

I seem to run into the very familiar issue with Network Manager of it repeatedly asking for the network "secrets" but have yet to connect once inputting the correct passphrase. Also, here is what I'm getting in my /var/log/messages file..

The 2 lines that stand out the most to me I've put into bold. Yet I don't quite know where to start trouble shooting either. From what I understand my current setup should work. The only thing I can think of is that the kernel I'm using, I do believe, has just recently put the wireless driver for my card into the upstream kernel. Rather than using a driver package(iwlwifi) At least, from what I've read. So I'm wondering if its still a bit buggy. Anyone have any suggestions? After dealing with Windows Vista and its silly boot manager.. I've finally got fedora up and running perfectly. Now if I can just get this wireless card working. :) :)

For now I'd like to say that this issue is solved. A little info about what I discovered. I'm using a netgear wgr614 wireless G router.. I've been using the encryption method of "WPA-PSK TKIP". After trying a few more fixes for my issue I thought I'd check the router one last time. There just so happens to be a setting in there that apparently does "WPA-PSK TKIP + WPA2-PSK TKIP" combined.

I checked this option and now wireless seems to be very stable. What lead me to this was trying to disable the encryption altogether to see if this really was a driver or kernel issue or just an encryption problem. I'm downloading updates in the background and writing this from my wireless connection as we speak. So I'd say it works well so far. :) :)

The option in your router "wpa-psk tkip + wpa2-psk tkip allows the router to accept "wpa2 tkip" and if not finding that will accept "wpa tkip" Possibly a encryption type mismatch.

I assumed as much. Just not understanding why using strictly "wpa tkip" wouldn't work since that was what both the router and the client were trying to use. *shrug* I'm just happy it works. I've been attempting to get this to work for quite awhile now.

I have the same error with iwl4965, it works fine on reboot...but if i logout and login it doesnt reconnect. any thoughts on troubleshooting this?
Yes it works fine with connection without encryption, but i have a wifi service and it requires WEP encryption.

i have the same problem, if i change the seetings to "WPA-PSK TKIP + WPA2-PSK TKIP" will that effect the way anyone else on my network connects?
