I have a Thinkpad T61 laptop with Intel Pro Wireless 3945abg wireless card. The OS version is Fedora 8 with the kernel 2.6.24.3-34.fc8.

I used to be able to connect to my AP which is encrypted using WEP. Probably after some update, I can not connect to my AP using network manager. I use keyring to enable wireless network when boot up. Then it keeps asking me for the password. I am sure the password is correct. I just can not connect to it.

Is there any one else has the same problem? Is this a common problem? Is the key format matters?

Thanks for your attention

Just a recommendation though,

try to connect without any security matter (wep) and see the output?

Funny thing is I'm having a whale of a problem with my T61 which has the Atheros (Thinkpad a/b/g) card to do the same as what you're trying to do - get a simple connection going.... no way!

I have the same kernel as you and I have two problems: first, my atheros card is identified as wlan0 instead of ath0 and second I have the exact same problem as you when I try Network Manager .... with a simple WEP connection with no encryption, NM keeps coming back asking me for a password.

I'm starting to suspect a kernel fubar.

Check this thread to see what I mean:

Is there any other way to connect with WEP?

just a thought,

Disable NM and try to configure your wireless with the following command: (as root)
#system-config-network

I have solved the problem by update the kernel to 2.6.24.3-50.fc8
