Hi all,
I installed FC8 on my laptop two weeks age, and the kernel is kernel-2.6.23.1-42.fc8. After the installation of the FC8, I realized that a wireless adapter driver also need to be installed. So I found madwifi and installed the madwifi-ng-r2717-20071002, the installation of madwifi is smooth and perfect without any issues.
After madwifi installation, I found my network-manager can find lots of AP, but when I tried to connect anyone of them, it showed me can't dhcp.
I tried lots of methods, all failed. Anybody encounter this before? Any suggestion will be appreciated. Thanks in advanced.

Do a complete system update. Remove madwifi completely and see if your card is supported in the 2.6.24 kernel.
If not, install the latest version of madwifi from SVN.

I have exact the same card and had the same problem. In that time madwifi had problem with the chipset. I solve the problem using ndiswrapper. No problems until now.
Madwifi can be a cleaner solution if you can do it works :). If not, try ndiswrapper.

Hi ppesci,
Tried Ndiswrapper, after the installation, I checked the /var/log/ndiswrapper, it showed me the following info,
ndiswrapper version 1.52 loaded (smp=yes, preempt=no)
ndiswrapper (check_nt_hdr:150): kernel is 64-bit, but Windows driver is not 64-bit;bad magic: 010B
ndiswrapper (load_sys_files:210): couldn't prepare driver 'net5416'
ndiswrapper (load_wrap_driver:112): couldn't load driver net5416; check system log for messages from 'loadndisdriver'
usbcore: registered new interface driver ndiswrapper
I don't know why, is it because I am using X86_64? Do I need to download another 64 bit windows driver? What's your system enviornment?

I used the driver in http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR- Which driver you are using?

Yes, I think the problem s for a 32 bit driver in a 64 bit os. I use net5416, but my OS is 32 bit.
Try to find a 64 bit version driver.

I have the DWA-643 manufactured by D-Link because the iwl3945 is still not very reliable, Chipset 5418. I am using it since Fedora8 (32 and 64 bit) and now also in Fedora9 rawhide (64 bit), using the driver madwifi-trunk-current.tar.gz from http://snapshots.madwifi.org/ . Just run make and make install. Blacklist other wlan devices/drivers in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist. The interface is called ath0 and works fine with networkmanager. Ndiswrapper and win drivers are not needed.
