I'm running fc2 on an old dell lattitude CPi 266XT. It has a 3Com pcmcia card (3c589_cs). My first problem is that at boot up, it would fail to detect the card, and I had to delete the network profile from the gui, reboot, then run the wizard. But every time I'd do that, I'd get a connection as long as I didn't reboot the laptop. If I rebooted, it would fail to detect the card, and I'd have to delete and redo the wizard. No fun.
So I figured out how to get the led light on the network card to light up. I added a line to my rc.local file "modprobe yenta_socket". So now my network card will light up (I suppose indicating that the pcmcia slot is active), but I still get no connectivity. The IP of the laptop is obtained via DHCP from my router. What do I need to do to get this working? Do I need to add "modprobe 3c589_cs" after the yenta_socket in rc.local?
Help!
