Hey ppl,

I've a little problem with my internet connection (Fedora Core 2): I have X-Chat (IRC) and the messenger running. No problems at all, I have them connected, can chat and do whatever. My internet connection does work aswell (as you see me writing this post in Mozilla on Fedora).

But when I leave the comp for a while the screensaver activates and when I start moving the mouse again the screensaver vanishes. BUT: the connection restarts, i.e. I was not connected for that time which makes it impossible to keep a connection alive.

Why is that so and what settings do I need to modify so all internet connections are kept alive? I searched but found nothing.

Thank you all in advance,
Prone from Hamburg, Germany

This may be related to power saving thingies like apm or acpi. Network cards get their power from somewhere, and maybe the power saving options turn this power source off.

Try to disable apm or acpi or both in system-config-services, try the one, try the other, figure out which one is causing the problem. Hope it works out for you.
