I never knew...

I finished downloading the FC3 Test 1 DVD ISO last night, went out this afternoon & bought a 10-pack of DVD+RW discs. I then fired up K3b to burn the disc. Everything seemed okay - but it spit out the tray much too early, albeit saying that the burn had completed okay. Checking the disc, the only thing there was the volume name! I looked at the options, checked my drive selection (Lite-On SOHW 812S DVDRW, right enough) and scratched my head. Tried it again, same results.

Finally, I fired up nautilus , navigated to the ISO file, right-clicked and burned away. I'd been chary of this since the docs never referred to DVDs - only CDs. Lo and behold, c. 15-20 minutes later, there's my bootable, pass-the-media-checkable, installable (up to the point of actually writing anything - I'm getting a "scratch" HD for that - I'm chicken, okay?) DVD.

Sometimes I tend to complicate things...

Hmmmm....why won't K3B burn the disk?

Hmmmm....why won't K3B burn the disk? Probably some configuration "gotcha" that I missed. But at this point, I'm not real inclined to dig into it. I installed the KDE app for the express purpose of burning data DVDs with my new hardware lashup (and because I wasn't sure if nautilus would do it. Since it does (and I don't have to muck about with it), I'll probably remove Kb3 - I really don't need it for anything else. I posted as a point of interest in case anybody else is as uncertain as I was.

I admit I was surprised - a purpose-built app that doesn't seem to be as "smart" as a file browser?
