Okay, before I start explaining my issue please read the following list with information on hardware, connection, etc so you guys can understand clearly.

Ethernet ADSL Modem
-------------------------
Efficient Networks, Inc.
SpeedSteam 5260

Ethernet Card ( integerated in my laptop )
------------------------------------------------
3Com Corporation
3c905C-TX/TX-M [Tornado]
Driver used : 3c59x ( installed by Fedora v2 OS itself )

Internet Service Provider
-----------------------------
Sympatico Bell

Okay, I've set up the ADSL modem ( cable lines, power cord, etc ) and connected it to the end port of the ethernet card in my laptop ( i wouldnt call it a card because its an intergerated one ). On the ADSL modem, there are four green lights on ( sys, atm, dsl, and enet ), so that mean it's working properly. "enet" and "dsl" indicate that the modem was already connected to the ethernet card and is communicating fine and is receiving data from my ISP. On the ethernet card's end port, there is also a green light which means its communcating with the DSL modem as well.

I used the following cmd line to set up the adsl account on my laptop (fedora core 2);

/usr/sbin/adsl-setup

My isp provides dynamic dns ips so i didnt input two dns ips ( primary and secondary ) so i didnt put these ips in the setup. Everything went fine. I tried the following cmd line to connect to the internet;

[root@localhost root]#/sbin/ifup ppp0
error : /sbin/adsl-start: line 217: 2808 Terminated $CONNECT "$@" >/dev/nu
ll 2>&1
[root@localhost root]#

I rebooted. The route checking displayed two failed messages;

determining ip info for etho ....failed.

bringing up interface ppp0 .... failed.

Okay, I went back and did the adsl setup again but this time I put down two DNS addresses ( Primary and secondary ) .. tried /sbin/ifup ppp0 and and rebooted .. same result.

check the following list of urls linked to the succession of ppls wif the very same ethernet card im using.

link 1 (http://www.linuxquestions.org/hcl/showproduct.php?product=1069)
link 2 (https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/attachment.cgi?id=99819&action=view)

anyone willing to help? ( yea i posted almost similar thread about this one on hardware but its wrong topic and im trying to get ppls who are expert on this topic .. i mean .. do u use a computer without internet? yea for documents or development or whatever but come on, u need teh internet for news, forums, gaming, etc )

1. did you enter your user id and password? you mention about entering DNS # but nothing about user id and pass.

2. go to redhat panel go to > System Settings > Network > enter root pass > click on EDIT tab > click Provider tab and enter your ISP name, USER ID and Password, click ok, go to FILE tab and click on SAVE to save info entered. NOW you can click activate.

3. under the general tab you can have your connection active at computer start up!

now i hope this helps :D

have you connected to your ISP using that computer before? you might need to give them the MAC adress of your card. if you can dual boot, try using another OS to link to the net, then back into fedora and see if that works.
