in Gnome. If i open a terminal, i can ping out, ifconfig shows eth0 configured properly, and it even resolves names properly, where i ping a name, it returns with pinging an ip address, and connects, however, if I open mozilla firefox, or any other app in the gui, it can't connect to the internet. I can access ssh, the webserver, and webmin remotely also.

one other thing i noticed when this started is the eth0 is NOT active on boot, regardless of how it's setup. I have to manually bring up the interface, where it starts to ping out.

Fedora Core 9 on virtualbox, on WinVista host, using host interface.

Thanks in advance.

figured it out, i think... I have to ALSO set up networking within the GUI, even after it's working on shell level.. what's up with that??? the issue was that although the ip info was correct with ifconfig the gui has this graphical network config tool, where the gateway was blank, and there was no DNS. why not have the ifconfig work for xwindows and desktop environments? thanks anyways.
