Nice article...I did try Firefox and it was fast and well organized but it did not quite meet my needs at this time...and I am sticking to Mozilla Bundle for the time being, but will be eagerly awaiting the next release...I may just be used to Mozilla and not yet ready for change...I did see differences in how webpages were displayed between the two browsers and some other things that I didnt take the time to note(nothing major)...but then again I may have caused some problems myself...keep us updated and I am sure I will try it again....

I use it and have it installed on every windows box i go to. IE sucks. Still have to stick with mozilla, just has everything i need at the moment, but if you only use it for surfing the web firefox if definetly recommended its very quick and stable.

i've switched to firebird / firefox a long time ago, using it in windows and linux as a default.

They completely meet my needs all the time, and i never had any problems.

Great article, and yet another fedoraforum.org which means we climb the fedora google result list. I love it.

I will use firefox as soon as it matches the rest of my desktop, and that includes the using the gtk 2.4 file selector, I don't think I'll ever use firefox, even though it is a great browser.

I use the Moz suite. I have a 1.8a build with calendar and XFT fonts available for download at http://www.ingeniumatica.com/downloads/mozilla-i686-pc-linux-gnu-1.8a_xft_gtk2_calendar.tar.gz, compiled in FC1, if someone is interested... Anyway, Firefox and Thunderbird have a problem running under Gnome: even if you set'em as you default applications, clicking a "mailto:" link in FF won't open TB, and clicking a URL in a mail message in TB won't load FF. Not without some ugly hacks, at least...

This will surely be fixed as the applications walk their way to versions 1.0. In the meantime, the suite is a more "mature" application...

fjleal; I disagree, I installed Thunderbird back when I was running FC1 and it automatically became my default mail client, same with FC2T3, with no 'ugly hacks; of any kind

Yes, but when you clicked on a link in a mail message, did it open Firefox and navigate to that link? And if you clicked a "mailto:" link in Firefox, would it open the Firebird's "new mail" window? No. Thats's what the "ugly hacks" were for...

I have TB 0.6 and FF 0.8 on a FC1 box, and if I open TB and want to display a http link that's in a message I received in Firefox, I have to right-click the link, choose "Copy link location" from the context menu, open FF and paste the address in the URL bar. That's the problem. The applications are not "aware" of each other.

if you're using gnome do you have your default app setup correctly?

preferences -> prefered applications -> custom webbrowser = firefox %s

evolution recognises this fine and allows me to open links in firefox

Evolution may do. I admit I didn't try Evolution. But I was refering to having both FireFox+ThunderBird instead of the Mozilla suite...

But now that you mention it, I'm curious: if you click a "mailto:someone@somedomain" link in FireFox, does it open your Evolution new message screen with "someone@somedomain" as the message receiver?

Very nice article, Ug. You "write a fair shtick", as we say here on the Left Coast of the colonies.

I've tried Firefox/Firebird at various points in its evolution (I tend to prefer stand-alone apps) but I've kept coming back to the SeaMonkey suite (currently running 1.6 (latest stable release). I guess I've just gotten used to the way it works, and little things in Firefox (the way it sorts bookmarks, for example) have just kinda annoyed me.

That said, I do intend to give 1.0 (maybe even 0.9!) a fair shakedown & trial.

0.9 is basically a feature freeze, but even then there's not that much more being added to it.

It was originally forcast for March/April, so its anyones guess as to when it'll appear.
