Just a brief note here just updated the latest gnome packages etc. On install I lost samba networking on both my F9 boxes. The problem is that the firewall has added 2 extra rules one of network printing and the other for samba client. Having found this out I now have samba back running ok. Just to let you know out there :)

Hello Anniedog

and anyone else who may be having trouble with this samba update.

On two out of the three machines I have tried it on so far, the nmb service does not start properly.

If you still have problems after sorting out the firewall:

service nmb status

may be worth looking at. On my machines it reports "nmb dead but pid file exists":

service nmb start

cures the problem for me if it's not started,

Hi bbfuller
I am lucky that everything is working ok again. It seems to be one thing after another with updates at the moment. I think I am probably getting away with this nmb problem as I have added my network address to /etc/samba/samba.conf and I am using my router as the nameserver. I must admit to not really getting to grips with the new services GUI. I seem to be getting a few services that just will not restart there or even report if they are running, system manager seems also to be no good any more for drilling down on active processes. Ooops I spoke too soon, got to sort out my amd again, crashing/freezing so it wasnt the hard drive after all, this is now not getting funny. You know they say it never rains but pours:).
