Hey any on that wants to connect their fedora machine to a microsoft vpn, here's where to go.
http://pptpclient.sourceforge.net
follow the fedora core links and you will be up and running in no time. although you will need to make sure that you have the gcc and glade gtk elements installed to use this tool. It works great. I am able to connect to the vpn and use the terminal services client to connect to my win 2003 smb server at work.

Why don't you run open vpn? Easier to setup and less headaches.

Because the IT department for his work-place made that decision - not scull7

That's a very naive approach - and it doesn't work. Initial cost isn't the only factor that is taken into account when such decisions are made.

well yes i would have loved to use open vpn, or another open source vpn software. as a matter of fact that is what i use to connect my work pc with my home pc, because it is more reliable. However, crackers is right. The IT director before me decided to use microsoft's vpn set-up because at the time they were running all microsoft software. And well in that type of enviornment well using the microsoft mppe-vpn is 1000x easier, 4 clicks and your done, and you have a disk to use to set up all the client machines. Also, the software company that we purchased our mobile order placement software from will not support us is we use anything else. so no matter how free a replacement would be it wouldn't matter, as we would void our $30, 000 software support contract. Although I am starting research to implement a mobile ordering software in Java so that we could use the software on just about anything. if I am successful in doing this I will release it under the GNU GPL so anyone that wants to help just let me know. but anyway the client software i found worked beautifully and wasn't very difficult to set up. and it was also free. i was just posting it so that other people in my situation might find it useful. Thanks for the support crackers.
