When trying to watch an embedded .mpeg or .mov file in a webpage I'm getting to different situations: with .mpeg files mplayerplugin opens a new mozilla window and downloads the file (to the mozilla cache) but doesn't start the movie. With .mov (quicktime) files mozilla crashes...
Are there some special options to configure or is this another x86_64 multimedia disadvantage?

I assume you've used the package from livna.org, as they are the only repo I know of offering pre-built x86_64 packages.

About the crashing, does this happen when you play .mov files in mplayer (outside of mozilla) too?

Not really, mplayer and mplayerplugin were installed from ATrpms (physik.fu.berlin). The mplayer package is mplayer-1.0-35_pre5.rhfc2.at.x86_64.rpm, the mplayerplugin package is mplayerplug-in-2.66-16.rhfc2.at.x86_64.rpm. Outside of mozilla mplayer has no proplems playing mpegs (also within nautilus) but crashes on .mov files. Well, I think this is a codecs problem with 32-bit codecs and the 64-bit player. But with .mpeg files the file is downloaded correctly, it just doesn't start to play...

o.k. after google-ing and trying different settings in /etc/mplayerplug-in.conf, after removing mozilla-totem, I am at this point:
mpeg, avi and quicktime movies are loaded and buffered in a new mozilla window. I can see the controls and hear the sound but still got no picture. But I can watch the movies with mplayer in the download folder. Are there any settings in mozilla or mplayer or mplayerplug-in that I have to change and I didn't found yet?

I would advice you to use the packages from livna.org as they are tested and has proven themselves.

ok. added livna to my yum.conf and tried to install mplayerplug-in from there, but yum didn't find this package there...

if you decide to use livna.org you can't any longer use the thirdparties (atrpms, freshrpms, newrpms etc). So comment them out and add fedora.us to you yum.conf. And be prepared to have a lot of conflicts with the packages allready installed.

Well I think that's not worth it. Anyway, playing around for three days with some browser plugins is long enough. It will go to my "maybe in the next version" linux folder (along with alot of others...)

Es ist nur ein Computer... kein Grund böse zu sein... und in Windows funktioniert es eh...

well, I thought just one more try wouldn't harm too much. So I found a possible reason: when I start mplayer from the command line, mplayer is not able to open a window,also. Error message is: Can't open /dev/fb0 no suitable (this is my guess because the error message is in german) device found. There is a /dev/fb0 listed under /dev. I tried different other drivers in the config file (xv, X11) and got the error "cannot open..."bla,bla.
But: gmplayer works without any problems even when I start it from the command line. gmplayer uses the xv driver...
any ideas?
