Thanks for the link micha. With it, I was able to gain mp3 access for xmms and dvd playback with ogle.
I wasn't able to get mplayer installed and working. I will wait for stable version of totem, realplayer and vlc.
have you tried the linux ntsf package?

Does compiling from source resolve the need of the dependencies in rpms?
If so, I will give it a run when I get home from work

Yes. I have Development Tools, X Software development and Gnome Software Development packages checked(installed).
And I had no problems compiling source.

I am glad that I installed those at installation.
The guide worked! Thanks. The install went good, directions were easy to follow. I was able to run xvid avi's and mpegs.
I wasn't able to get a dvd to play in it though. Is there something that I need to configure?
How can I create a start menu link to run the program?

Did you add some fonts, and a skin called default ?
Anyway, use the Mplayer package from FreshRpms, It should work better.

I couldn't get the freshRpms package to connect. I ended up redownloading the latest source for mplayer and re-compiled it. Everything seems to be working good.
thanks for the help
