I am pretty new to the admin side of Linux and need a bit of help getting my dns name setup. I have setup a static IP on my machine using the Network Configuration UI for the Eithernet Device. On the DNS tab in the Hostname text box I have entered linuxdev. When I ping the IP address from a different machine I get a reply, but when I try to ping it using the name linuxdev I receive an unknown host error. What am I missing?

I am running Fedora core 2 behind a Linksys WRT54G wireless router. I also have a Windows XP Home pc on the network.

Thanks...

The machine you're pinging from needs to know what IP address linuxdev is - there's 2 ways for it know this: 1 is that you put it in the local hosts file, 2 is that you put it in your DNS server (if you have one).
