Hi,

I'm having problems with my wireless cards on any linux, but I like Fedora the most, so I want to have those cards working on Fedora/KDE. Just want to tell you that I'm a linux starter, so make it easy please, thanks..

Now my story:
I have a Creatix CTX712 WLAN card in my laptop with an Intersil Prism chipset (don't know which version, sorry). In the installation it says it found a new piece of hardware, so I let it install it. Then he tells me its an Orinoco_pci card ( ), so I went looking on the internet and they tell me Prism chipsets work on Orinoco drivers. Next thing.. I rebooted the comp, in the rhgb it says something like "didn't find any orinoco_pci cards, cancelling.." (just something like it.. I had to translate that text). So I looked in the 'Network Device Control' and it tells me the card is an eth card (not a wireless  ). Deleted it, installed it as a wireless, configured the settings (MODE: Ad-hoc, SSID: 624+, CHANNEL: 1, SPEED: 11Mb/s, WEB(key) value inserted (tried this with and without the 0x in front of the line)), then saved and tried to start but failed! Now what can I do guys? I have the same problem with my Ralink wlan card. Please, a lot of people are waiting for this answer (because they can't (just like me) find it on the internet). On Micro$oft it was pretty easy, you can download them everywhere and the drivers were even included with the card. But linux is a downloaded version.. and I can't seem to find a way to let it work with my wlan cards.

With Kind Regards,

Ok guys,

I have new information :)
in the terminal, I tried "iwconfig" and gave me this
eth1
IEEE 802.11-DS ESSID:"624+" Nickname:"localhost.localdomain"
Mode:Ad-Hoc Bit Rate:11Mb/s
RTS Thr: off
Encrytion key:XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XX Security mode: open
I noticed the "encrytion key" was wrong (it should be WITHOUT the -'s) and the "security mode" is wrong, it should've been a WEB Encryption and not an OPEN Encryption.

How can I change this?? hopefully someone knows the answer. And I'm running FC3 2.6.9-1.681 if you haven't seen my signature yet ;)

Hopefully waiting and with kind regards,

Ok,

1. Delete the line in "/etc/modprobe.conf" (there should be a line with your card)
2. Delete a piece of text in "/etc/sysconfig/hwconf" (here also, there should be a piece of text with the configuration from your card, delete all that info between the 2 -'s)
3. Reboot
4. In Kudzu (Hardware Detection Program) IGNORE the piece of hardware it found.
5. Finished :)

Note: Linux wlan encryption is max.10 characters, in an OPEN or RESTRICTED security method. :(
Hope I helped you out too,

With Kind Regards,
