I have recently installed fedora 3 on my PC, however i am finding that my downloads are running quite slowly in fedora.. and yes I have looked at other threads and i have turned IPv6 off and I still have the same problem.
Any help would be appreciated.

are your downloads slow compared to another os or to the speed your isp says you have? (one thing that'll affect d/l speed is if you totaly saturate upload speed while d/l'ing. i found that out when i started playing with bittorrent)

Can you post your pc specs and are you using dial, dsl or cable?

yeah, sorry I should have elaborated more from the beginning.
My PC is set up as a dual boot (Fedora 3 / Windows XP)
My internet connection is running through a cable conneciton on a gateway on my home network,
When using fedora my downloads tend to run slower than when I use XP. Turning off IPv6 heled a bit, but I still don't get the same speeds as XP.
Overall bandwidth is fine but individual connections don't seem to be that great (i.e. each connection might only get around 30kb/s but having multiple downloads running will still all be at around the same speed)

Have you done a speed test? Try one close to you. (http://www.dslreports.com/stest?more=1)

speed test came up with speeds between 500 and 800 kb/s
shouldn't cable be faster than this?

That depends of your cable company.....did you get same results in xp? Do a benchmark of both systems.

Yeah i just went to do a speed test in XP and surprisingly it got lower (between 400-500 kb/s)
so I don't know whats going on, I guess I've just been downloading off slow servers..

My resluts are between 300-310 and they are correct in xp and fedora. So I am OK because I use dsl.

That's probably it.
I've heard cable speeds can vary.

Disable IPv6 if you are not using it...that might slow things down a bit too.

well.. my speeds are still slow, even from sites i know should be fast, so I've redone the speed test and I'm getting speeds between 30kb/s and 70 kb/s!!!

On his first post he said he already did.
I say configure Fedora network settings. I did so because I had the same problem while behind a router.
In Gnome click System Settings then click Network. Make sure the values are correct in each tab. Also check the options in the edit button. Are you the network administrator? If you are you should check your router and write down the settings. Lots of options and stuff so its hard to remember.

Thank you Jesus-Franco! My IP was set to static, which I have set to dhcp. From the few pages I have loaded since changing it seems much faster.

What type of router do you have?

Well... my net it of 128kbps and i get 248 in Linux and around 90 in Windows. So... hmmm... i think i'll just stick to Linux :D
Suprisingly, i always get a little more speed from Ubuntu than from FC3. I can't understand why!
