Well, I'm after a new modem, because i HATE the alcatel SpeedtouchUSB  so any recommendations for a modem that isn't mauch hassle to setup on Linux? I'm in the UK by the way, so any links to products would be great, looking for an internal modem preferably :)

If you are fine with paying 15 bucks extra for a modem driver, Linuxant (http://www.linuxant.com) offers drivers for all conexant based soft modems. Otherwise I would suggest you to go for an external modem. (a serial one maybe) Those are usually fully supported by linux.

hmmm, all the serial modems i have seen are for 56k....

how about an easy fix for the Alacatel 330 USB modem? i'm a newbie when it comes to this stuff, so theres no straight install drivers and it works methods with this modem?

Isnt your modem for dsl? If you have a nic in your pc you can buy one the plugs into the nic and maybe your problem will be solved.

Doesnt you mother board come with network intregrated card (aka "nic")? I am in america and my dsl company provides us with the modem a speedstream 5100 dsl modem. (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=62025&item=5747597579&rd=1) Which works great in fc3. Ebay has good prices you may want to check ebay there in the UK.

EDITED......BTW fedoranews has a how to for you speedtouch modem. (http://fedoranews.org/contributors/eric_brasseur/speedbundle/)

Boy from what I can find on the net, I'd have to recommend an external unit that plugs into your NIC (Network Interface Card, or Ethernet port). I have heard good things about the Zoom X5 (http://www.zoom.com/products/adsl_overview.html).

i've seen the zoom one, but it's exspensive and I'm on a not very high at all budget :(
