compiling madwifi

I downloaded the madwifi version I believe I need and ran rpm on it. The instructions I have then tell me to run "make" and "make install" to compile it. It seems the rpm extracts the files to a folder I don't know about because all that's in the madwifi folder is the original rpm file. Where do I run "make" and "make install" from? ANY help will be a LOT of help. Thanks a lot!
