I have this:

[Internet/University Firewall Server IP 10.10.255.254]
|
|
[3com Stack III 12-Port Fiber Switch HUB]
|
|
[RHEL AS 4.0 Server (eth0)]
[IP 10.10.1.2 /NM 255.255.0.0 /GW 10.10.255.254 /DNS 10.0.1.1]
[RHEL AS 4.0 Server (eth1)]
[IP 192.168.0.254 /NM 255.255.255.0 /GW 10.10.1.2 /DNS 10.0.1.1]
|
|
[D-Link 10/100 8-Port Switch Hub]
|
|
[WRT54G 4-Port Switch]
[Network Setup - Static]
[IP 192.168.0.253/NM 255.255.255.0/GW 192.168.0.254/1st DNS 10.0.1.1]
[Router IP]
[IP 192.168.0.253/NM 255.255.255.0]
[DHCP - Disabled]
|
|
[Windows XP]
[IP 192.168.0.1/NM 255.255.255.0/GW 192.168.0.253/DNS 10.0.1.1]

I have set "enabled" the Firestater Firewall NAT (Network Address Translation)/DHCP Disabled on eth1 in the RHEL AS 4.0 to make IPv4 forwarding. Set the Network Proxy Server in RHEL AS 4.0 "proxy.xxxxxxx.xxx.xx:3128".

I can ping the router (WRT54G) from Windows XP. But when I ping the WRT54G/router 192.168.0.253 from RHEL AS 4.0, I only got "unreacheable host".

However....when I take out the WRT54G and change the Gateway Address of Windows XP to 192.168.0.254. It went okay.

Note: Currently using the WRT54G as a Switch/HUB not yet venturing to Wireless.

Also is it possible to hook up 7 more WRT54G Router in my D-Link hub?

Any help would very much appreciated.

Apparently, you are using the same IP for the WAN and LAN interfaces on the Linksys? I think you should change the IP of one of the interfaces. I also think the WAN and LAN interfaces have to be on different subnets.

If all you are wanting is the wireless, then just don't use the WAN interface... Plug one of the LAN ports into the D-Link with a crossover cable.

It looks kinda sloppy with all those routers. I don't see why they would all be necessary, but please tell me what your goal here is. I know I have asked questions on setups that also have boggled others as to why it had to be done a certain way.

Can you paste the routing table for your RHEL AS 4.0 as well as the WRT54G.

I have had WGT624 running off a DG632 using both of them as routers (the DG632 used as a modem but I wanted also to connect a switch to it so that I could use anything to connected to it as the DMZ) but they had problems routing between each other and out to the internet. So it might actually be a problem with how your using the WRT54G. You might need to enter static routes in the WRT54G

Wow connecting another 7 WRT54G's if your going to go to those lengths I would probably invest on a higher grade cisco or hp router and set up vlans. Or are you purely wanting to use them as access points throughout a site?

I've already solved this one a week ago....I able to hop the WRT54G router in another subnet within the RHEL AS 4.0 eth1.

As for the 8 routers (also solved this one out)....I have 3 buildings, which houses 80 people (scattered among those building).

The company wanted me to build them an *inexpesive* setup of wireless which is secured *enough*.

I had limitation regarding wired for 100 meters of lenght from 1st to 2nd building not to mention the 3rd Building. Plus the fact they are getting tired of wiring an entire building & putting wire on their laptop everytime they connect. I can't even imagine an 80 rooms of wiring.

I also found a way of how the WRT54G Router become a Receipient Access Point (reverse of the router/bridge) of signal of other WRT54G routers to be used as a switch for the 3rd Building...Desktop computers or unwired computer.

The bandwidth is not a problem since the Uni sits on 3 E1 line....and currently were on 1 Gigabit Bandwith.

Right now I'm venturing with Wireless/OpenVPN 2.0 scenario.

Anyway, thanks for the help guys... :D

nice!!!

I think the projects which have limited funds always turn out to be the most interesting ones.
