Anyone got a scoob.
Basically got Freenx set up and i can contact my linux machine running as the server. Using a windows machine running the client. Have followed the nomachine guide to setup the file sharing.
http://www.nomachine.com/howto/file-sharing.php
I want to be able to transfer files between both these pcs using freenx.
Samba is running as i can see my samba share via the networked places on windows machine.
I am stumped as to how i actually transfer files. Does anyone know if its possible to just transfer a file using drag and drop /copy and paste.
Any help much appreciated.

I am not sure, but have you configured the service in the nxclient login box. If you already have a shortcut and a saved configuration for nxclient on your desktop, you may have to open a shell (CLI) and type in nxclient to get a fresh login box. The bottom left has a Configure button, then click on Services...and enable Samba shares.
Hope it helps.
P.S. there is a small problem with the nxserver spawning zombie processes under certain situations. NoMachines is working on it, not sure about the open source folks. You can see if that is the case via ps -ef in the shell or opening SytemMonitor>ProcessListing. As a workaround, you can use putty from a windows box, ssh to the remote host, login, and then you can type in nxserver . That will show you the options for the command. You want nxserver --terminate username
and it will terminate the zombies :D. If you do it from within a nx session, you will disconnect yourself.

Have done all that. Seems to me that nothing appears to be mounting under the shared folder that i set up. I am pretty sure this is where i am messing up. Should i actually be mounting something somewhere as well.
I do not seem to get the prompt advising me of the new share after i have enabled and configured the nx client which leads me to believe its not been mounted.

Coming a wee bit stuck with file transfering with freenx. Have followed the guide to setting things up and it seems to be working nicely. I can connect to my linux machine running the server via my flatmates machine running windows and the client. (all under local network in my flat via router)
I cannot seem to set up the share to enable file sharing. I am following this guide and i am trying to configure the client on the windows machine. As i understand it i should be able to configure the client so that i can, for example, share the C drive of the windows machine and then map it so that it shows up under a specified location on the server.(linux machine), just like the guide demonstrates. I think my samba is working fine as i can connect and see the specified shares via my xbox and also via the network places on windows machine .I can also see the shared resource on the windows machine from the network servers tab on my linux box. I am sure the mounting part is the problem or the path that i am trying to use. I am trying to mount the C drive of the windows machine(client) and then map it to a folder called C on my linux machine. The path i would use for this and input in the 'map as' box would be : /home/jp/C ( i am typing this in exactly like that as this is how it appears in my file manager when i navigate to that folder- unsure if i am maybe missing out something here) I then input the username and password for the client machine in the username and password box.
I then connect to the linux box(server) from Windows(client) and get my linux box on the screen. I think i should then be able to go into my file browser and then hey presto find the c driver mapped to the C folder on my home drive. But this is not the case. Is it blindingly obvious what i am doing wrong. Have been looking at this for the last few days and its now starting to wear a little thin. Its a shame cos i am pretty impressed with the freenx so far as it does exactly as it says on the tin.
Help please .... ok pretty please
Thanks

johnbhoy,
I am a bit out of the league in this one, mainly because I haven't yet played with Samba and am using WinSCP (works great and its free) to transfer files between Windows and Linux, or sometimes Webmin. I mainly use NX to have a graphical representation of the remote desktop (Linux), sort of holding my hand, while I get more comfy with the CLI.
Hopefully someone with better NX experience will see this post and help...

Thanks anyway Zigzagcom. Just getting frustrated here as i know i am doing something so simple wrong. Will keep reading. may try the winscp but must admit i kinda liked the idea of it all being in one package with freenx.
Thanks again.
