Hello Guys!

I have finished my DNS Server setup (or at least I pressume).

I tried redirecting a domain I bought to my dedicated ip and the stupid provider asks for a dns name and ip address* just like that (don't know what the asterix is for).

It always gives me a message like "Couldn't find your DNS Name". I tried all the combinations and nothing.

There is a strange fact... The ISP gave me a ip address and it appears like that when i go to "www.whatsmyip.org" to check it out... but if you enter that ip on the browser... nada...

So i got to the router and found out that it has something like "internet xxx xxx xxx xxx" and I entered that ip address on the browser and voila! I got my page. (I already configured my DNS to the router and computers and it works great).

I noticed something else too. If I try to access a ftp from the inside, using my local ip it displays the pub folder and if I try a username and passwords it works wonders (i use vsftp); but If I try it with that other ip, it sends me directly to hell with a "425 security: bad ip connecting" message.

This is telling me that my dedicated ip address is behind a very strict firewall with those guys... and I don't like that... too much trouble...

Anyway... thats what i think... Any suggestions?

Thanks for the time

ok if you ISP gave you a static ip you should make sure that on your router you have it set up with that static ip address and still not on dynamic. Even if you have a static ip and your router is still on dynamic it will give you a dynamic address.

Don't worry, is set to static. The thing is I don't know how to serve my own url. I have set up my DNS as I said and it works fine here. The thing is I want it to work worldwide! and I don't know how to tranfer my url to my DNS

I have done this before... ISP give you their DNS url and you just transfer it to their dns and no problem.

The problem starts when I want to host my URL

Your terminology is a bit broken.. a URL is something like http://site/path/file

You seem to mean domain name, like fred.com. In this case you need to pay a domain name registrar to uniquely reserve your domain name and hold the mapping of the name to the DNS server that holds the zone information for the domain. Once you registered your name, you can change this "Whois record" to point to your DNS server and away you go.

ports on your router and firewall open? might need to add a route in your firewall to point to the computer that is hosting your dns
take care

Well, I did all taht, I have my domain name already, i just don't seem to be able to redirect the domain to my ip... thats all

The firewall is totally open... (please don't try to attack right now!)
