i have installed the firmware and drivers. i have gotten wireless to work... in fact it works great at my girlfriend's house and at work, but only randomly works at home. The only difference I know of is that work and my girlfriend's house have linksys routers, while my home has dlink 524. I have done searches but i am not really sure where to start (Still new to linux). Is there anybody that would mind helping me out? I have gotten the wireless to work at my house only a few times.

Define "randomly"
Well, when I came home from work today (it worked at work even after many restarts), i came home and my computer would not connect to wireless internet after startup in FC4, but would in windows xp. I kept trying some things like deleting and adding the network device in system->netowkr dev config, and activating/deactivating it. Then all of a sudden it started working. I restarted, but now it doesnt work again.

it detects my wireless signal in FC4 (i disabled WEP to make things easier for now):
iwlist eth1 scan

When I try and activate the connection I get this:

iwconfig

If anybody could help me, I would really appreciate it. I am desperate! ;)

ok... 2mins after i just wrote that last post, my wireless connection is now working. All I did was edit eth1 through network configuration and type in SSID, channel, and speed. Then I was able to get an active connection. It still gave me that same error, "Error for wireless request "Set Bit Rate" (8B20)". Does anyone know what is going on and how I can get it so that I do not have to do this every time to connect.
Thanks.

Try deleting the CHANNEL line in the ifcfg file for the interface.
I think there is a basic problem with wireless networking. Several times people seem to be able to see access points but not make a connection. Deleting the channel line in the config file seems to get things working. A bug has been filed on this.

i deleted the channel line with no success. How would I start all over? How would I remove all the drivers and firmware, so that I could try installing the latest drivers?
Is this my only option?

Did it stop working or are you just seeing that error message?
If it is working then ignore that error.

it had quit working again at the time of that post. however, it is working now and i think i figured out what was wrong. i am about to go to work, so when i get there i will post a follow to confirm if what i fixed was the problem. thanks so much for your help, i really appreciate it.

i think i have it fixed... i still get the error message, but it seems to be working. I had 2 different firmware versions, so I removed the old version. Then I had 2 devices set to eth1, so i removed one of those. It appears to be fixed... but it appeared to be fixed before too.

I have seen that error before. I don't think there is anything you can do to get rid of it at this time. The key though is if the interface comes up and runs.
