hi, i'm new to the linux game, but trying.......
if there is an app that i want to use but i can't find a ppc rpm for it, can i compile the srpm on the ppc to get a ppc version?? or do i need a srpm especially for ppcs??

You should be able to rebuild a src.rpm and use it on a ppc system, but I do know that there might be slight differences between x86 and ppc which might cause problems with the source compile. I would try recompiling the src.rpm using rpmbuild --rebuild <filename-version>.src.rpm and seeing what happens. Be sure to read How to create rpmbuild directory (http://fedoranews.org/tchung/rpmbuild/) so you can rebuild a src.rpm as a nonroot user (good for security purposes).
