where is the IP address stored with DHCP?

I feel sure this question has been asked before, but I could not find it in spite of detailed looking. With a DHCP server (my router) assigning dynamic IP address to the PC's on my LAN, where is the current IP address for the PC stored? (If, for example, I wanted to ping one of the other PC's on the LAN). /etc/hosts doesn't seem to have anything in it. Also, a related question -- how does one read the ethernet address from the NIC?

Your router most likely has an option to view DHCP status. On linux clients, you will find the IP obtained in

/var/lib/dhcp/dhclient-eth0.leases

file.

ifconfig command will give you all NIC information, including MAC address.
