I just bought a desktop wireless card for my 2nd pc that needed the ndiswrapper to work. I put my eth0 nic in my second pc with the wireless nic so that I could get needed files off the internet with eth0. Now my wireless card is setup correctly (I shutdown eth0 and used wlan0 to surf the net) as wlan0 and I thought I no longer needed eth0, so I went to network configuration as root and deleted eth0 and the wlan0 DNS info that related it to eth0. Then I shut down the pc and removed the ethernet card and left in the wireless.
When I did a reboot my wireless card could not find my wireless network or any others...scan showed nothing. What's going on?

Which brand did you get? I got me a orinico gold card and I dont know if it is hardware related or what but as far as I know the drivers are included since kernel 2.4....and so on I think.
Well my atheros card and the new one I got refuse to even show up when I do a /sbin/lspci and its killing me....I can not find the solution all I know my laptop has a nforce mobo.

My laptop wireless card is also an Orinoco Classic Gold and it works beautifully. This nic I'm having trouble with is a desktop wireless pci Trendnet card and needs ndiswrapper drivers to work. They don't have my card with Linux modules (rev 03), so ndiswrapper takes my WinXP cd drivers and hacks them. This is a headache-I wouldn't recommend any card that needs ndiswrapper to work.

Was it plug and play? Im starting to get really upset if I install mandriva I thinking it will pick it up and that will really hurt that fedora does not. Specially on a fresh installation.....

It is plug n play. dmesg shows no errors for the ndiswrapper module-it's assigned irq 9.

All works ok now-reinserted my eth0 card and recompiled ndiswrapper after removing it (make uninstall and rm file/directories ndiswrapper). Then I set up a wireless connection for my new wlan0 connection and made eth0 inactive and specified not to activate either network card on boot.
Pulled the eth0 card and kept it inactive in network sys config and now I can get online. I just have to modprobe ndiswrapper (activating it on startup gives an error), assign an ESSID, and dhclient wlan0. Being this pc is for a Win user, he'll need a nice little point and click app besides kwifimanager that'll do all this. Suggestions?

It is weird but my compaq R3000 does not see it at all. My other pressario 2103us atheros works fine and orinoco does not show at all.
Anyhow, I think it is related to the mobo because the R3000 uses nforce drivers for sound, video, and other stuff but it does not see the atheros or orinoco at all.
