How to access Windows Server

I apologize in advance for what may be a duplicate question but I was wondering if anyone knew how to get my FC4 machine to talk to my Windows 2003 Server. I know Samba is the piece I need to configure on the laptop but do I need to setup and configure services for Unix on the Windows side?

I am a lot confused on the subject obviously and would greatly appreciate the assistance.

Please don't use services for unix. I just installed that on a windows computer and it is a big waste!
