I wonder if this driver supports the modular X.

This driver finally solved my problem.
For the first time, i could set TwinView and rotate both screens 90 degrees.
Great work!

I installed the rpms from livna like always. Actually I build them myself from the src rpm they provide because I use the kernels from linuxant. Since the update I get the "no screens found". I tried modprobing the nvidia module but that does nothing. Any suggestions?

(EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration.

Fatal server error:
no screens found

André

Unfortunately, the current Livna package doesn't have "nvidia-xconfig"; maybe they'll add it in a later release?

Ok I finally got the Nvidia drivers to load and work. NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-8174-pkg1.run.

Now I have a root boot prompt showing up before the x logon window appears?

Any ideas?

Thanks

Tried to install today and get

ERROR: An NVIDIA kernel module 'nvidia' appears to already be loaded in your
kernel. This may be because it is in use (for example, by the X
server), but may also happen if your kernel was configured without
support for module unloading. Please be sure you have exited X before
attempting to upgrade your driver. If you have exited X, know that your
kernel supports module unloading, and still receive this message, then
an error may have occured that has corrupted the NVIDIA kernel module's
usage count; the simplest remedy is to reboot your computer.

-At grub boot, press "A"
-remove "rhgb quiet"
-add "3" to the line
-press Return

you will start with init3 (without X).
now try the installation.

OK that worked but I'm still getting wrap round of the display, if I switch between winows 2k and fedora 4 I have to slide the screen to left

I have a hardware upgrade question. I am using an older Nvidia G2 pro card. I want something that will work well with quake 3. I was thinking about the 6150 geforce card. I don't want to spend a lot but I want something pretty good. Any suggestions? I was thinking $150.00 maximum price range. I have an Abit card with 4x agp I think.

nvidia-glx is a separate package in the Livna repository. I am guessing that you didn't actually add Livna to your repos (which is what you're supposed to do), because then it would have resolved dependencies.

I had the same problem, and I am a neewbie. So I do not know if this will help you. But the first thing I did was to install the latest core 2.6.14-1.1644_FC4. Once it was installed correctly (which took me awhile to understand). Then I followed two links to get my NVIDIA to work. The first link was http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_display_ia32_1.0-8174.html. This gave me the latest NVIDIA drivers. (NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0.8174-pkg1.run) Then I followed the instructions from imdeemvp whos reply is just above yours. There is a link on his reply with many instructions that should help on several problems you might run into.

Getting the lateset NVIDIA drivers seemed to work for me when the other NVIDIA drivers did not.

I do hope this helps.

No--the actual problem is you are using older nvidia kernel modules that require a specific version of nvidia-glx rather than the usual "version has to be this version or greater." Probably the best way to fix this is to simply uninstall the older nvidia kernel module packages.. Or, you can force an upgrade of the nvidia-glx package...

rpm -U --force http://rpm.livna.org/fedora/4/i386/RPMS.lvn/nvidia-glx-1.0.8174-0.lvn.1.4.i386.rpm

I had the same problem. The solution is correctly defined above - If you have the kernel module installed for an older kernel, which requires the older nvidia-glx, then you end up going round in circles.

use the command

yum remove kernel-module-nvidia-(old kernel version)
which should automatically remove the offending nvidia-glx packages as well. In your case,

yum remove kernel-module-nvidia-* may work???
otherwise just go through the list. When the skeletons are removed from your closet as it were,

yum install kernel-module-nvidia-$(uname -r)
will do the trick, and the dependencies should all be back in place.

Worked for me (after much head-scratching)
