error 8 when dialing

Hi everyone, i have just entered the world of linux by installing Fedora Core 3, i was first upset with my conexant modem which wouldnt work so i decided to use my older 'Auslynx, Tasmanian Devil External modem model 56ES (56k)' which runs on serial, fedora picks it up on TTYS0. The problem is that in KPPP all it just sits there initializing or something and does nothing no matter how long i leave it on for, in the other dialer ( in network settings) it just gives me error 8. This is very frustrating and has probably answered before but i have search all over the place and have found nothing. So if anyone could help my i would really appreciate it.

I think you have to put the init string "ATX3", try..
