I have read many posts on the atheros chipsets and madwifi drivers. I have the latest FC4 kernel and the current madwifi-ng drivers. I do not use ndswrapper. Is there a consistant method to get my wireless up at boot? I can get it up every time after I login. It just appears to be a timing issue as to when modules are started.

i'm having a similar problem...
i just got it installed for 1653 and i can get it up after boot (through, modprobe, wlanconfig, ifconfig up, iwlist, dhclient, etc, etc, etc) and it's getting old.
i put alias ath0 ath_pci in /etc/modprobe.conf along with the install..... and remove..... lines from madwifi.org's redhat/fc doc pages
nothing

wow, i feel silly.
i've been trying to activate it (so it starts at boot) through Desktop>>SYstem settings>>N etwork, and have been flustered because it wasn't there.
so, in a moment of clarity, i just added another wirelkess device using the ath_pci driver and its up. i think this should make it work, so i'm going to give it a shot now

if u open system-config-network and select your wireless device, click on edit and check the box activate this device when computer starts does that work?

where did you get madwifi from? I just read another post about madwifi being broken at one repo (livna?) but working from another (atrpms)? Yet even that lead mentioned that they had to disable WPA to connect.
I'm am booting into the 1644 kernel and my ath0 works. When I boot into the 1653 kernel, it no work.
I'm happy to wait. It took me 3 days to get madwifi and wpa_supplicant to work (turned out to be an installation error).

there's another thing u can try to get it to load at boot, enter all the commands u must type to load the card into the file /etc/rc.local those commands are the last thing run before the loging manager shows up so that might work

I did a 'yum remove' on the old livna 1653 kernel module that I installed, then I did a 'yum install' on the atrpms 1653 kernel module. It installed, I rebooted and choose the 1653 kernel at the grub startup screen, and ... for the first time since 1653 came out ... everything came up automatically ... I didn't have to mess with my wpa_supplicant at all.
