 Hi,
I am new to Linux. I have a Clevo M400A laptop and running XP Pro and Linux. After installed linux, i tried to go online and it can not recognize any connection. It seems like i am lost. It would be really helpful to get some leads.
Thanks

i tried the DHCP but it didn't work. However, i am a student of Univ. of Mass Dartmouth, what should i use as my IP address, is it the address of my university website?

normally every computer is issued an ip address before they can connect to the internet through some server. Since you are on campus I am pretty sure DHCP assigns your ip address. suspect the problem should be from there.

I was able to get the IP address through my XP network connetion but it seems like the ethernet card, that cann't be recognized by the Linux.

Give us the specs on the network card... Many of them are autodetected.
Could be a trust issue. Security level may help you. but first we have to make sure linux is NOT finding your card.
Check this link (http://www.viajes-abaco.com/m400a/)
Its for mandiva but should give you the steps you need to get started.
If you are using the ipw2200 WIRELESS card fedorajim has a howto on setting it up
